Detox Facial Mask

Detox Facial Mask is a rinse-off clay mask for skin that gets shiny or feels congested. Multani mitti (20%) and kaolin (10%) are absorbent clays that take up excess surface oil, and bamboo charcoal gives the mask its deep charcoal colour. Triphala, manjistha, sandalwood and hibiscus powders and a trace of mukta pishti, a classical pearl preparation, sit in a cream base with glycerin, coconut oil and olive oil. That base is why it feels smooth and creamy rather than tight like a plain clay pack. Best for oily, combination and acne-prone skin, twice a week.

How to use

1. Cleanse and dry your face.
2. Apply an even layer, avoiding the eyes and lips.
3. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes.
4. Rinse off with lukewarm water using gentle motions, then pat dry and moisturise.
5. Use twice a week, in the evening.

Key ingredients

• Multani mitti (20%). Fuller’s earth, the classic Indian clay for absorbing excess oil.
• Bamboo charcoal (2%). Gives the mask its colour; charcoal is used in masks for its absorbent surface.
• Manjistha (2%). Rubia cordifolia root, traditionally used in Ayurveda for skin clarity.
• Mukta pishti (0.1%). A classical pearl preparation.
• Hibiscus powder (1%). Flower powder from Hibiscus rosa-sinensis.

Who it suits, and who should avoid it

Suits oily, combination and acne-prone skin.

Very dry or sensitive skin should patch test and limit use to once a week. The mask contains cinnamon bark powder and oil, which can tingle or irritate some skin. Avoid if you have a tree-nut allergy (walnut shell) or a cinnamon sensitivity, and on broken or inflamed skin. Not vegan: mukta pishti is made from pearl.

Texture and scent

A smooth, creamy charcoal-coloured clay that feels cooling and non-drying. No fragrance is added; cinnamon and sandalwood are in the formula.

Cautions

• For external use only. Avoid the eye area and lips.
• Patch test on the inner arm and wait 24 hours before first use.
• A mild tingle can be normal. Rinse off at once if it burns or stings.
• Do not leave on for longer than 15 minutes.
• Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Close the jar tightly and keep water out of it.

How often should I use it?
Twice a week.

Will it dry out my skin?
It is a cream-based clay, so it is less drying than a plain clay pack. Moisturise afterwards all the same.

Is tingling normal?
A mild tingle can be, because of the cinnamon. Rinse off if it burns.

Can I use it with the Dewy Face Scrub?
Yes, on different days.

Does the charcoal stain?
It rinses off skin with water. Keep it away from light towels and fabrics.
